A Giant Pre-Peritoneal Lipoma: A Report of an Uncommon Presentation of a Rare Entity and a Review of the Literature

Background: A lipoma is one of the commonest benign tumors in surgical practice. Lipomas are usually found on trunk and limbs but less commonly within abdomen, where they occur frequently mesentery as well subserosa submucous layer gastrointestinal tract. Pre-peritoneal lipomas rare. Case Presentation: 44-year-old woman presented with a painless progressive right-sided abdominal swelling 5 months duration. Examination revealed 16cm x 14cm slightly mobile non-tender firm-to-hard hour-glass-shaped mass extending from right hypochondrial to iliac suprapubic regions. Abdominal ultrasonography showed 5cm 6cm bowel thickening fossa suggestive an ileocecal while computerized tomography 20.8cm 6.3cm 20.1cm hypodense peritoneal cavity, epigastric region pelvis, anterior loops more right. At laparotomy, huge, encapsulated yellowish pre-peritoneal space, weighing 1,520g was excised. Histology confirmed lipoma. Conclusion: preperitoneal uncommon soft tissue tumor giant ones extremely Although rare cause swelling, should be considered differential diagnosis patients presenting unremarkable feature intra-abdominal pathology.
